Resolute
I promised myself Iād take heart and I did,
unafraid in the estuary in only a scrap of cloth;
shouting into the creamy froth of a morning.
I promised you I would stay and I did.
Staring hard out of the window at the trees,
at the aching sky.
I promised the trees I would listen and I did.
Silent as the coppicing started, intent
on the bright humming of the blades.
